I used to think the most meaningful part of teaching was the moment a student finally understood something I had spent weeks trying to explain.<\/p>\n

Now, I think it is something else.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

For months, I sat in front of a screen and taught English. There were lessons that went exactly as planned and others that didn\u2019t\u2026okay many that didn\u2019t. There were technical problems, missed assignments, difficult conversations, repeated explanations, nervous responses, small breakthroughs, and moments when I wondered whether what I was doing was making any real difference.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

Teaching can be strange that way. You spend so much time giving that you don\u2019t always get to see what remains.<\/p>\n

Then came our final lesson.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

One by one, my students held up handwritten messages. Thank you. We will miss you. I will never forget your kindness and dedication.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

And for a moment, the curriculum didn\u2019t matter.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

I had spent the course evaluating them through assignments, assessments and participation. In that final class, they gave me an evaluation of my own.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

It wasn\u2019t about how well I taught grammar or how many new words they learned. It was about how they experienced being taught by me.<\/p>\n


<\/p>\n

They may forget some of the English. They may forget individual lessons. But perhaps they will remember being encouraged when they were struggling, being given another chance when they made mistakes, or having a teacher who genuinely cared whether they succeeded.<\/p>


<\/p>\n

That realization has changed how I understand teaching.<\/p>


<\/p>\n

As teachers we dont always get to see our impact while we are making it. Sometimes you only discover what you meant to someone when it\u2019s time to say goodbye.<\/p>


<\/p>\n

Week after week I entered that classroom to teach English.<\/p>


<\/p>\n

I left knowing that, somewhere along the way, I had become part of their experience of this chapter of their lives.<\/p>\n
